Brisk activity was seen on Saturday at a street booth set up in Mong Kok by pro-democracy activities asking the public to write post cards to those detained because of the anti-government protests as well as the 12 Hongkongers detained in Shenzhen for allegedly crossing into mainland waters.

The card writing campaigns is being organised by several district councillors, asking people to send their thoughts to those who’ll be separated from their families during the upcoming mid-autumn festival.

At a booth on the Mong Kok Road flyover, some 20 people were busy writing messages and paintings on postcards when an RTHK reporter went there.

A woman, who gave her name as Sin, said she was addressing her card to the 12 detainees being held in the mainland. "I wish they have a happy autumn festival and let them know we are supporting the social movement," she said.

"It looks like a tiny thing, but we are paying to attention to them and the whole issues," she said.

One of the organisers for the Mong Kok booth, district councillor Siu Tak-kin, said they collected around 100 cards addressed to protesters held in Hong Kong detention centres in less than two hours.

According to him, some 1,000 cards have been gathered from across Hong Kong for the Shenzhen detainees.

Siu said while much attention has focused on the 12 detained on the mainland, he hopes the public will also remember that many protesters are being held in Hong Kong. They had sacrificed a lot for the pro-democracy movement, he said..

The district councillor said he felt people’s passion for the protests has been exhausted and he wanted to remind the public that protesters who are in detention need more support.
