  • Mandatory testing ordered for Kwun Tong building

The Centre for Health Protection on Friday ordered residents of Kwun Tong Garden Estate Lotus Tower Block Two to undergo mandatory testing, after an additional case brought the total number of affected flats to four.

Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan from the centre said two of the units were facing the same directions but on different storeys, while the remaining two were the same floor.

"On the same floor it is easier to explain because they may be neighbours and it's easy and they [may] have contact subconsciously without knowing each other," Chuang said, noting that the Housing Department and Buildings Department will check the block for leakage and abnormal construction.

The new case from Lotus Tower were among 57 new coronavirus cases reported on Friday - all but two were locally transmitted.

Health officials said they could not trace the source of infection for half of the local cases, including an 81-year-old resident of an elderly care home in Kwai Chung.

The elderly woman did not show any symptoms, but she was tested after leaving her care home for a medical checkup.

Meanwhile, 50 preliminary positive cases were also reported, including a nurse at United Christian Hospital and a student nurse at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
