Police said they are investigating a fatal traffic accident early on Friday in which a 44-year-old man died near the Central-Wan Chai Bypass Tunnel..

They said that at about 12.18am the man was riding the motorcycle through the tunnel in the direction of Sai Wan, and reportedly lost control when leaving the tunnel and hit a lamp post.

They said the motorcyclist sustained serious injuries, and was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital where he was certified dead at 1.31am.

They said the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island, is investigating the accident and appealed for witnesses to contact them on 3660 6848.
