A 30-year-old unemployed man appeared in court on Friday accused of the attempted murder of pro-Beijing lawmaker Junius Ho.
Prosecutors alleged at Fanling Magistracy that Tung Pak-fai stabbed Ho with a 33 centimetre-long knife near Richland Garden in Tuen Mun on Wednesday morning.
Ho was campaigning at the time for the district council elections where he is up against the Democratic Party's Lo Chun-yu and Chiang Ching-min, who didn't declare any political affiliation, in the Lok Chui constituency.
Tung was remanded in custody and the case was adjourned to February 3.
Meanwhile, Ho was discharged from hospital on Friday afternoon after receiving treatment for a wound to his chest.
Escorted by police officers, he made an okay hand gesture to reporters waiting for him as he was wheeled out from a ward.
Ho told the reporters that he would continue with his election campaign. The citywide district council polls are due to be held on November 24.
