Police said on Tuesday that they had arrested a security guard over a message online which allegedly urged people to kill senior officers in the force.
The post circulated widely on social media before it was apparently deleted, police said.
The force said it had arrested a 50-year-old security guard it suspected had posted the message.
The man was suspected of incitement to inflict grievous bodily harm with intent, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
A cyber security chief inspector, Fan Chun-yip, told reporters that while the force very much respects free speech, such freedom is not absolute.
"The police noticed netizens were abusing Facebook to spread violence and hatred which incited others to raid police headquarters and attack the senior management of the force," Fan said.
