Ventus Lau talks to RTHK's Priscilla Ng
Localist Ventus Lau filed an election petition on Tuesday challenging an official's decision to bar him from standing in the Legco by-elections in March.
Lau was disqualified from running in the race in the New Territories East constituency after a returning officer decided that the localist supports Hong Kong independence and would therefore not uphold the Basic Law.
The decision came despite Lau, 24, signing a declaration form stating he would seek to uphold the city's mini-constitution and pledging allegiance to the SAR.
Lau said the returning officer had unreasonably referred to past posts he had made on social media to come to her conclusion, without enquiring about his current opinions.
"She just used my past Facebook content to disqualify me, so I think this is not reasonable. She should consider my latest and present political stance," he said.
Lau said he was quite optimistic of winning the case because he had a strong argument.
Last week, Demosisto's Agnes Chow also filed an election petition following her disqualification from the Hong Kong Island by-election.
