Police said on Wednesday that they have arrested a former librarian from the Tseung Kwan O public library for allegedly accessing readers' online library accounts and changing their personal data without authorisation.
They said the contract worker allegedly logged into 129 readers' online accounts, reported their library cards as lost and changed their passwords.
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department says the library found out about the incident after it received enquiries from some readers, who said they couldn't access their accounts.
It reported the case to the police and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, and 86 of those affected have been contacted.
The Department says it's set up a special task force led by an assistant director to review the security measures for readers' personal data.
