Beijing's Liaison office in Hong Kong has condemned a death threat made against a chief magistrate and his family last week.
A spokesman said any behaviour that blatantly challenges the bottom line of the law cannot be tolerated.
The office accused radicals of threatening local judges in a bid to affect their judgments in future cases. It said this in itself was a blatant challenge to the national security law.
Chief Magistrate Victor So reportedly received the death threat on Thursday, shortly after he denied bail to the media tycoon Jimmy Lai in a fraud case.
So is also one of six magistrates hand-picked by Chief Executive Carrie Lam to handle national security cases.
The Bar Association and the Law Society also condemned the threats against So.
