The government announced on Friday that the Legislative Council will resume its meetings on October 16.
It also said the fugitive ordinance amendment bill, which has sparked off unprecedented protests in the SAR, will be formally withdrawn “immediately after” the Chief Executive Carrie Lam presents her policy address.
"To respond to public concerns over the bill in the past few months, I write to inform you that the government plans to withdraw the bill at the first council meeting of the 2019-2020 legislative session, immediately after the CE's policy address," Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung said in a letter issued to the Legco president.
Lam had announced in September to formally withdraw the bill but that has not pacified protesters who want the government to accept all of their five demands, including an independent probe into police actions and amnesty for arrested protesters.
The Legco building was broken into on July 1 and vandalised by anti-government protesters. Authorities said around HK$70 million has been spent to repair the damages.
