The government said on Tuesday that the next Legco elections are expected to take place on September 6 this year, while the nomination period for candidates is to run from mid to late-July.
The dates were revealed in a paper submitted to Legco by the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau.
Voter registration closed on May 2, and the Registration and Electoral Office confirmed it plans to announce the official voter register on July 25.
The number of people registering to vote is expected to have increased dramatically in light of the city's ongoing unrest.
Hong Kong currently has around 4.2 million people who are eligible to vote.
There were fears that the Legco elections would not go ahead amid the Covid-19 outbreak, with some people from the pro-Beijing camp, such as Junius Ho, calling for the elections to be postponed.
After the pro-democracy camp's resounding success in last year's district council elections, there was also speculation that the government would seek to delay September's Legco polls to avoid another trouncing for the pro-establishment camp.
