The Law Society on Tuesday elected its first ever female president since its establishment 111 years ago.

Melissa Pang won the top position unopposed and began her term immediately.

Before that, Pang had been serving as the society's vice president since September 2014.

The pro-Beijing solicitor said she was honoured to be in the top post, and said the Law Society would continue to voice its opinions on contentious issues.
