The chairman of the Legco Finance Committee, Chan Kin-por, said the committee will not discuss a funding request relating to the Lantau reclamation project before the Legco summer break in July.
He said the government has told him that the HK$550 million request for a feasibility study to build artificial islands off Lantau will stay at the bottom of the agenda for this legislative year.
Chan said even if the committee finishes vetting all the other items before the summer recess, debate on the request for the Lantau Tomorrow Vision plan will not resume.
Development Secretary Michael Wong said earlier on Tuesday that if the funding request was not passed before the Legco summer break, the government would have no choice but to accept that.
Critics of the plan had earlier called for the complete withdrawal of the funding request, citing worries that the measure might still be passed even if it had been put at the bottom of the agenda.
