Kwai Tsing Health Centre To Open Next Week

The Secretary for Food and Health, Sophia Chan, said on Friday that first of the primary healthcare centres announced by the government in 2017 will open in Kwai Tsing district next Wednesday.
The centres, announced during the 2017 Policy Address, is to be established in all 18 districts. Funded by the government and managed by NGOs, these centres are meant to treat chronically ill at district level and relieve the pressure on hospital services.
Chan said the new centre in Kwai Tsing is expected to serve 55,000 of residents in the area.
The secretary also said the government has found sites to set up centres in seven other districts and the next ones will open in Sham Shui Po and Wong Tai Sin district.
Dr Cissy Choi, the head of Primary Healthcare Office in the Food and Health Bureau said the centres will also try to raise people's awareness of disease prevention. Various promotional and community activities will be held for this along with medical consultations, she said.
Choi said the Kwai Tsing will also offer rehabilitation for those suffering from specific kinds of illnesses such as strokes, hip fractures and acute myocardial infarction.
