Kitchee announced on Saturday that all footballers of its first team will self-isolate and be tested for Covid-19, after the spouse of a staffer at the club tested positive for the coronavirus.

In a statement, the club said the staff member failed to report as required by the club’s regulations that his spouse returned from overseas on March 18.

Preliminary results show his spouse tested positive for the infection.

As a precaution, the club’s medical advisers said its first team and all staff from the Kitchee Centre in Sha Tin should see doctors on Monday and be tested for the coronavirus. Test results are expected to be available by Wednesday.

The club said it had previously suspended all programmes at its academy and public bookings at the Kitchee Centre since early February in view of the coronavirus outbreak.

“In response to the government closure of the recreational facilities, the Jockey Club Kitchee Centre was closed for all football team training since 24 March."

"In view of the current situation, the Centre will be locked down completely to undergo deep cleaning procedures until further notice,” the statement said.
