Pro-Beijing legislator and lawyer Junius Ho has reportedly been summoned to attend a hearing by the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal in London, which will decide whether to remove him from the UK register for alleged misconduct.
That's according to Hong Kong Watch activist Luke de Pulford.
Pulford said on Twitter that "people who... encourage authoritarianism have no place practising law in the UK".
He also posted an email from the tribunal, which said Ho had a case to answer and a hearing has been arranged for mid-December.
Meanwhile, the tribunal will decide soon whether to publish a statement on the allegations on its website.
According to tribunal proceedings, it can make its findings and hand down possible sanctions even if the party fails to attend and is not represented at the hearing
Pulford pointed out that he has been campaigning for months for the tribunal to take action against Ho. Critics of the outspoken lawmaker have linked him to the Yuen Long attack on July 21, 2019, one of the most violent episodes of the anti-government protests. Ho denies involvement.
The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal adjudicates upon alleged breaches of the rules and regulations applicable to solicitors and their firms. It also adjudicates upon the alleged misconduct of registered foreign lawyers and persons employed by solicitors.
RTHK has asked Ho for a response.
