The group that regularly organises events to remember the Tiananmen Square massacre on Thursday said it is not hopeful of being granted permission to go ahead.

Representatives of the Hong Kong Alliance In Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China were set to meet with the police on Thursday afternoon to discuss holding a march on the last Sunday of this month.

There willl be another meeting on Tuesday to discuss whether they can hold a candlelight vigil on June 4, despite the government saying it doesn't want the event in Victoria Park because of pandemic restrictions.

The Alliance's vice-chairwoman, Chow Hang-tung, said she was not hopeful of being granted permission.

But she added that they would be willing to comply with all reasonable measures to protect people against Covid-19 such as social distancing and mask-wearing.
