A tourism professor on Thursday said he's encouraged by plans announced in the Policy Address to revitalise the Southern district.

They include the Jumbo Floating Restaurant in Aberdeen being donated to Ocean Park to be run as a heritage and tourism attraction.

The restaurant closed in March amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Professor Brian King from Polytechnic University's school of tourism praised the vision of connecting landmarks in Southside but said it would be a challenge.

He told RTHK "it's great that the government is looking at connecting all the assets in the Aberdeen precinct and making it very much for the local community, I mean we're talking about building a liveable city and reinvigorating the area, so I think that context of joined-up thinking is great.

There's obviously going to be a lot of implementation challenges in connecting Ocean Park with the Jumbo Restaurant but I think both are important community assets and I think connecting them, seeing what's possible, is certainly a good starting point".
