Eastern Court has granted bail to activists Joshua Wong and Koo Sze-yiu, who were arrested last week for allegedly participating in an unauthorised assembly in Hong Kong Island on October 5 last year.
Their hearing has been adjourned to December 18 and both were released on bail of HK$1,000.
Wong, who faces an additional charge of breaching the anti-mask law, is not allowed to leave Hong Kong.
Koo told reporters outside the court that going to prison has become a part of his life as an activist, and he would bring a bottle of wine into prison if he were to be put behind bars again. But he was adamant he did nothing wrong, saying public rallies don't need to be approved by the police or the communist party.
He also told reporters that he has stage IV cancer, that will require chemotherapy and multiple surgeries
Wong, meanwhile, said even though he’s now facing various protest related charges, he will not stop his activism.
He also slammed the prosecution's application to bar him from travelling abroad while on bail, saying the government was trying to stop him from telling the world about the state of the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong.
