Police on Wednesday admitted that the investigator made a mistake by not checking if there were any security cameras in North District Hospital to obtain evidence about the alleged attack on a patient by some officers on June 26.

Chief superintendent John Tse said the investigating officer had just assumed that hospital will not have such cameras. He acknowledged the officer had made a mistake, but denied that was out of negligence.

"I do not think it is a negligence, but I can say because of the experience of that investigator, I agree there is room for improvement and we will review his performance," he said.

The public relations branch also rejected claims made earlier on Wednesday by the alleged victim's family that they had asked the officers to get CCTV footage.

Police said they went back to check the statement, and confirmed that there’s no such mention.

The officers said there was no audio recording of the interview with the son.

Tse again said officers had made four attempts to contact the family and the victim through emails and phone calls, but did not get any response.
