An Indonesian journalist, hit in the eye by a projectile on Sunday while covering a protest in Wan Chai, has completely lost her eyesight in one eye.
Her lawyer, Michael Vidler, said doctors treating Veby Indah had confirmed that the eye injury she received, as a result of being shot by police, had resulted in permanent blindness in her right eye.
The lawyer said that the pupil of Indah's eye had been ruptured by the force of the impact. He said evidence gathered pointed to the projectile being a rubber bullet and not a beanbag round, as originally thought.
On Monday, a press release by Vidler & Co. Solicitors said that, at the time of the incident, Indah was on an elevated footbridge linking Immigration Tower to Wan Chai MTR Exit A4.
The release said she was wearing a high visibility vest with 'Press' markings, a protective helmet with 'Press' markings, and her press credentials were displayed from a lanyard around her neck.
The statement said she had been with other members of the press, who were similarly dressed.
Indah works for an Indonesian language Hong Kong publication.
