Hundreds of people joined a flash mob rally at Chater Garden on Friday lunchtime over alleged police abuse of detainees, with the gathering evolving into a march through the streets of Central.

The participants vented their fury over reports of police sex attacks against protesters arrested in recent weeks, with a CUHK student revealing her identity on Thursday night as she claimed to have been one of those assaulted.

The crowd blocked streets in the Central area, marching along Des Voeux Road and Connaught Road, among others, chanting "Five demands, not one less" and "Hong Kong people, resist".

The police had earlier raised a yellow flag, warning the flash mob that they were breaking the law and could be prosecuted.

Many of the group had their faces covered, in defiance of a new ban on masks at any kind of assembly.

But most were not wearing the familiar black clothing of protesters and a lot of them appeared to be office workers.
