Hotline Planned To Help Kids Against Bullying

Several pro-Beijing figures have formed a concern group against school bullying after noting that the children of police officers were being targeted, saying they will set up hotlines to offer help for people in need.

DAB lawmaker Horace Cheung, a deputy convenor of the group, said they are aware that there have been online appeals to target children of police officers.

“Certainly in the last couple of months, the kids of the police officers would be a concern of the Hong Kong community. Because you can see from the internet, even today, I just received a message which says that they are collecting information about the kids of police officers, and say they will ‘do something’ in early September,” said Cheung.

The group is led by businessman Chan Wing-kee, who is a former member of China’s top advisory body – the CPPCC.

They said they want to stop all kinds of bullies “in light of recent polarisation in society”,and want to help build a harmonious learning environment at local schools.

The group has set up a hotline for people to report bullies, saying they will transfer all cases to schools or officials.

They say they want to provide an extra channel in case victims don’t trust schools any more.

The group said they will also look to set up workshops and provide psychological support to those affected.

But they said the group won’t deal with reports about students taking part in protests or class boycotts, as that’s not what the group is concerned about.
