Hong Kong’s Covid-19 cases were set to continue shooting up, with sources telling RTHK new infections will exceed a new record high of over 1,100 on Wednesday.

This figure would almost double the previous record of 625 set on Tuesday.

Medical experts have warned of an exponential rise in infections if the Omicron variant keeps spreading.

The surge in cases had prompted Chief Executive Carrie Lam to announce the city’s toughest social distancing rules to date, limiting private gatherings and higher fines for rule breakers.
