Hong Kong reported no new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, making it almost three weeks since the city has seen a locally infected case.

The majority of recent cases have come from people returning to the SAR from overseas, with the Centre for Health Protection reporting four Covid-19 infections among residents who returned from Pakistan on Thursday.

Hong Kong’s tally of confirmed cases remains at 1,044 as the city has now gone 20 days without a locally acquired case.

The government has eased many of the social distancing regulations imposed to prevent large scale outbreaks of the coronavirus which has been linked to four deaths in the city.

The drop in local infections has led to government asking civil servants to return to the offices and loosen restrictions like allowing up to eight people gather together.

On Friday, establishments like bars and pubs, gyms and beauty parlours were also allowed to restart, but venues like massage parlours and karaoke joints still remain shut.

Despite the drop in cases, the CHP reminded the public to maintain social distancing to minimise the risk of community outbreaks.
