Health authorities on Wednesday reported 280 new Covid cases – 32 of them imported.

Three of the new local patients are customers of a restaurant in Yuen Long where a cluster has grown to 23 infections.

"From our understanding so far, it appears that the virus was spread on May 1 through transmission at a relatively close distance," said Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan from the Centre for Health Protection

Chuang added that the government has notified the authorities in Shenzhen and Malaysia about the cluster, after discovering that three people who visited the restaurant have left for the two places.

The Hospital Authority said three more Covid patients had passed away.

In view of the easing epidemic situation, the authority announced that it will switch eight designated Covid-19 clinics back to general out-patient clinics from Friday.
