Hong Kong recorded eight new coronavirus cases on Monday – none of which were locally acquired infections.

The Centre for Health Protection said it believes the eight patients confirmed with the virus were infected outside of Hong Kong, as they had travelled during the incubation period.

Six of the patients were asymptomatic; they arrived in the city from the Czech Republic, Serbia, France, Indonesia and India.

The two which showed symptoms arrived from Russia and Pakistan. The patient from Russia is a 30-year-old man who developed symptoms on October 18. The 14-year-old boy from Pakistan started showing symptoms on October 24.

The centre said it's conducting investigations and relevant contact tracing on the newly confirmed cases, and repeated its calls urging the public to avoid going out, having social contact, and dining out.

"Members of the public should wear a surgical mask when having respiratory symptoms, taking public transport or staying in crowded places. They should also perform hand hygiene frequently, especially before touching the mouth, nose or eyes," it added.

Hong Kong's tally of confirmed Covid-19 cases stands at 5,303.
