Health officials said on Wednesday that Hong Kong’s Covid situation has entered “a stable level” in recent days as they reported 668 new cases for the day.
Among the new infections, 13 were imported.
"So far, we do not see an obvious trend of upsurge, but we will closely monitor because the Easter holidays have just ended. So we need to observe for a few days or even a week to see if there is any possibility of upsurge," said Albert Au from the Centre for Health Protection.
Authorities also said they received reports that three students and a school worker had tested positive via self-administered antigen tests, so they did not return to school despite the resumption of face-to-face classes.
So far, 187 schools have resumed in-person classes.
Another 10 patients infected with Covid had passed away over the past day, pushing Hong Kong's death toll in the fifth wave of outbreak to 8,973.
Meanwhile, health officials said they are deploying more people to man a hotline which handle enquiries on the government's new registration system for recovered Covid patients.
The system provides a QR code that recovered patients can use instead of a vaccine pass for 180 days since their day of recovery.
Au said officials are aware that some people were unable to get the QR code and he urged them to seek help from authorities.
