The Department of Health said on Monday that it hadn’t recorded a single new coronavirus case for the first time in more than six weeks.
With nothing to report, there would be no daily press briefing by health officials, the department said.
The number of new Covid-19 cases had remained low over the past week, with just single-digit increases. There were days last month when dozens of new infections were added to the city's tally.
Hong Kong has recorded a total of 1,025 coronavirus cases so far, with four fatalities. The last time no new cases were reported was on March 5.
Despite the encouraging fall in confirmed cases, an infectious disease expert said social distancing should remain in place in Hong Kong in view of a local Covid-19 infection reported on Sunday.
Speaking on an RTHK programme, Professor David Hui of the Chinese University said the government should prioritise tracing that patient’s close contacts and stopping the virus from being spread in the community.
