Hong Kong saw another locally acquired Covid-19 case on Monday, as well as a further 16 linked to overseas travel.

The patient who caught the virus locally is a colleague of a man whose infection was reported on Sunday. The pair work in a congee and noodle shop in Choi Hung.

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) said the latest patient was a 30-year-old man who lives in Fook Cheung Building in Tai Kok Tsui.

He had developed a sore throat on Saturday – a day after last seeing his infected colleague – and was being treated in Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Officials said that as a precautionary measure, they were distributing specimen bottles for deep throat saliva samples among other residents of the housing block in Tai Kok Tsui, as well as to anyone who had recently visited the restaurant.

"The CHP appeals to the related persons to return their samples to the CHP as soon as possible for early testing and to seek medical attention early if symptoms develop," a statement said.

Officials said the 16 new cases involving overseas travel comprised of 11 males and five females aged between 3 and 78.
