Sources have told RTHK that Hong Kong recorded two new preliminary positive Covid-19 cases on Monday that are believed to have been transmitted locally.
One of the cases involves a man in his 30s, who works in a noodle and congee shop in Ping Shek Estate in Choi Hung.
A 59-year-old man who works at the same shop was on Sunday confirmed to be carrying the new coronavirus.
The other new locally transmitted case is a 68-year-old man. RTHK understands that authorities have not been able to determine the source of transmission.
Both these cases are being treated in public hospitals.
Meanwhile, officials from the Department of Health have been to the Ping Shek Estate where. the eatery is located and distributed deep throat saliva specimen bottles to residents there for virus testing.
Infectious disease expert Dr Ho Pak-leung had earlier warned that staff and customers at the eatery could be infected, and a cluster outbreak could be possible.
