Sources say two people have contracted coronavirus from unknown sources, breaking Hong Kong's 21-day streak without a locally-transmitted case of Covid-19.
It’s understood that one patient is a 59-year-old man who works at a noodle and congee restaurant in Choi Hung.
He’s said to have a high viral load, and it’s unclear where he could have picked up the coronavirus, as he had not left Hong Kong recently.
It’s understood he had first sought help at a private clinic before going to the emergency department at Yan Chai Hospital in Tsuen Wan on Saturday night.
The man was later transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital, and is reported to be in a stable condition.
Sources say the other patient is a nurse who works at a clinic in Cheung Sha Wan.
Hong Kong has confirmed a total of 1,258 Covid-19 cases so far, and had not reported a locally-transmitted case since June 13.
The Department of Health and the Hospital Authority has scheduled a press briefing on the Covid-19 situation at 4.30pm on Sunday afternoon – the first such briefing in weeks.
