The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2021 has been postponed to October 24 next year, organisers say.
The annual showpiece sports event was originally scheduled for January 24, but the Hong Kong Association of Athletics Affiliates and Standard Chartered Bank said on Friday that it has to be further delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Public health and safety are always the top priority of the Organiser. In light of the uncertain pandemic situation and to align with the government’s pandemic prevention measures, the organiser will continue to work closely with relevant government departments and stakeholders for appropriate preparation works,” a statement said.
It added that other details and registration arrangements would be announced at a later date.
This year’s Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, originally slated to take place in February, was cancelled for the first time since 1997 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
