There was a heavy police presence outside Prince Edward MTR station on Sunday evening, outnumbering those who were there to mark the storming of the station by officers exactly nine months ago.

On August 31 last year, a group of protesters clashed with police, with officers entering a platform and trains to detain suspects, in one of the more violent episodes of the anti-government protests.

The B1 exit of the MTR station on Nathan Road had been closed for months and become a makeshift shrine for protesters.

While things have generally returned to normal, the last day of the month still draws a crowd there.

Several Yau Tsim Mong district councillors were there receiving the white flowers gathered from the public.

Dozens of police officers in riot gear were also standing by and guarding the exit, setting up cordon lines and asking journalists to do their job within a certain area.

At around 9pm, officers raised a warning flag on the nearby Nathan Road after a crowd had apparently shouted slogans and yelled at the officers. They were warned not to take part in an illegal assembly.

Officers conducted searches on some 20 people.

Groups of officers and several police vans were also seen patrolling Mong Kok and Prince Edward earlier in the day.
