  • Hawkers say protests are hitting their income

A group of people belonging to a hawkers association demonstrated outside the police's headquarters in Wan Chai on Tuesday, demanding that authorities uphold the rule of law and saying their livelihoods are being affected by anti-extradition bill protests.

The association's members said their sales had dropped by 40 to 50 percent since June when protests against the government's move to amend fugitive laws escalated.

One demonstrator, surnamed Wong, said he sells handicrafts on Temple Street and his business has been affected, though he didn't offer any specifics.

Wong said he hopes calm can be restored soon so their livelihoods won’t be affected anymore.

The group said they have noticed a fall in the number of tour groups arriving in Hong Kong.

They said everyone should respect the rule of law and said protesters should not storm places like Legco.

Around 20 members of the association who took part in the event handed over a letter to thank the police for their work and also presented the officers with a few cartons of oranges in appreciation.
