Beijing's top official on Hong Kong affairs, Vice Premier Han Zheng, has commended Chief Executive Carrie Lam for overcoming various challenges this year, from fighting the pandemic to "implementing" the new national security law.
In a meeting in Beijing, Han told Lam that the central government firmly supports her administration's governance.
He said the CE has been “proactive and effective” in leading her government in tackling various challenges, from controlling the spread of Covid-19 and improving people’s lives, to maintaining the SAR's stability and the implementation of the national security law.
The Hong Kong leader earlier said she was travelling to the capital to iron out policies with central government officials which would be beneficial to the SAR’s economic recovery.
She said these initiatives will then be included in her Policy Address, which she hopes to deliver on November 25.
The vice premier said he had heard good reports regarding Lam's talks, and he hopes Hong Kong will grasp opportunities in relation to the development of the Greater Bay Area and the rest of the country.
He added that the fruitful discussions show how the central government is fully supportive of initiatives which are beneficial to the city’s long-term prosperity and stability.
Lam, meanwhile, said there are many areas where Hong Kong can integrate into the nation's development. She added that she deeply felt the central government's support for the SAR.
The meeting was also attended by the head of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, Xia Baolong, and the head of the Beijing's liaison office in Hong Kong, Luo Huining.
