An infectious disease expert says the new Covid-19 cases in Guangdong probably were infected by somebody from Hong Kong, as the viruses share very similar DNA structures.
Five cases were confirmed at Lufeng city since Friday.
Ho Pak-leung from the University of Hong Kong said on Saturday that Hong Kong’s outbreak have lasted for two months, and there had not been any new local cases on the mainland for a while.
So, the virus probably was transmitted from people from Hong Kong, and not the other way round, he said.
Ho said the SAR government should start testing more than 30 types of workers, including some truck drivers, currently excempted from quarantine requirements after travelling between Hong Kong and the mainland – warning they may otherwise bring the coronavirus across the border.
