Friends of the Earth is urging the government to cooperate closely with cities in the Greater Bay Area on climate matters. The Greater Bay Area development plan involves southern mainland cities, including Hong Kong and Macau.

"They can join forces to work together on climate mitigation, climate adaptation, coastal preparedness and city resilience," said the green group's chairwoman, Mei Ng. "Sharing information, data, forecasts, risk analysis and adaptation planning."

Ng said if there was going to be an economic Greater Bay Area, then climate considerations should also play a role.

To commemorate World Water Day on Friday, the green group is hosting a forum at the Hong Kong Club to push for regional climate action.

Ng said climate scientists, researchers and green financiers had been invited to attend.
