The Health Secretary Sophia Chan said bottles would be distributed to all taxi drivers to collect their saliva samples for tests after three more drivers a couple of drivers were confirmed to have Covid-19 on Thursday.
Speaking on RTHK, she said authorities would discuss with the taxi trade how to carry out coronavirus tests in phases as there’s a large number of drivers.
This comes as sources told RTHK that authorities were reporting at least ten more coronavirus infections on Friday, after 34 local infections the day before.
To Sang-tang , the Kowloon branch head of the Motor Transport Workers General Union, told an RTHK radio programme that some taxi drivers have probably been a bit lax by removing face masks to talk to passengers.
He said that business has been reduced by about 20 percent since the taxi driver cluster emerged in the last couple of days.
To also expressed hope that the government would arrange tests for for taxi drivers quickly and urged cabbies to be more vigilant and keep their face masks on when talking to others.
