RTHK understands that senior government officials are discussing whether to tighten anti-epidemic measures, and an announcement could come later in the day.
The news comes as infectious disease experts had called on the government to tighten anti-epidemic measures amid a spike in Covid-19 cases in the past week.
Experts say the latest outbreak is more dangerous than what the city experienced in March, when tight social distancing measures were implemented, like ban on not more than four people gathering together, shutting down of the cross border points and closure of entertainment venues.
On Sunday, Centre for Health Protection officials said the pandemic situation has "gone a bit out of control" and they are worried space will quickly run out in quarantine centres if the surge goes on.
Earlier in the day, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council confirmed that the book fair – which was due to begin on Wednesday – will be postponed.
In total, the SAR has recorded 1,469 infections, and there have been seven deaths.
