A chief clinical psychologist from the Social Welfare Department has urged anyone with emotional health problems to talk to their families and friends or seek professional help, after some experts warned that the ongoing extradition bill protests are pushing many youngsters to the edge.
In a statement, Chan Yiu-kei noted that some citizens are "emotionally troubled in view of recent controversies in society".
He said the atmosphere in society is depressing, adding that some people are upset as they think they don't have any solutions.
“If you have these emotions, it shows you really care about the society," he said.
"If you hope to become others’ support, please take care of yourself first. Take a break, so you can think clearly and calm down,” the statement added
Chan also urged people to care of others, listen to them, and try to "understand their demands".
The department also said its 24-hour hotline at 2343 2255 is available for those who need help.
