The Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung says the government will set up an office to coordinate plans relating to the Greater Bay Area, a Beijing initiative to develop Hong Kong, Macau, Shenzhen and eight other cities in Guangdong into a mega metropolitan hub.
Writing in his weekly blog, Cheung said the plan is of strategic importance to Hong Kong. He said the city has unique advantages under "One Country, Two Systems" due to its legal system and protection of intellectual property rights.
He also said transport in the area will be more convenient once infrastructure projects, like the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge and the Express Rail Link, are up and running.
