The government is to launch a study on how to build a centralised database of information on Hong Kong's children. Welfare Secretary Law Chi-kwong said on Sunday.

The database will bring together information held in a variety of different formats by various departments, the minister wrote in a post on his blog.

The study is due to begin in the third quarter of this year and should take about 18 months to complete, Law wrote.

Ministers hope that by bringing the data into a single system, departments will be able to use it to improve policymaking.
