Members of a police tactical unit team have been told to work from home after their sergeant tested positive in preliminary checks for Covid-19, making him the fourth officer to do so.
The police said in a social media post on Saturday that the 46-year-old sergeant, who is based in West Kowloon, had taken part in patrols and crowd-management operations in the past two weeks.
As well as telling members of the sergeant's team to work from home, the force said it was disinfecting facilities he had spent time at, including the station and a dormitory.
He went to a public hospital for treatment after falling ill on Thursday.
The police say the man is not considered a close contact of the other police officers who've contracted the disease, including a tactical unit officer in West Kowloon who was diagnosed last week.
Two other officers were diagnosed with the disease in February.
Hong Kong recorded a further 43 coronavirus cases on Friday, taking the total to 845.
