The Hospital Authority (HA) reported four more deaths linked to Covid-19 on Wednesday, bringing the toll to 63.

All four suffered from chronic illnesses, and two were elderly patients from care homes which had seen Covid outbreaks.

One was a 91-year-old woman who lived at Salvation Army Lung Hang Residence For Senior Citizens in Tai Wai, and another was a 79-year-old man who lived at King Fok Nursing Home in Sham Shui Po.

The third was a 78-year-old man who lived in Chai Wan, and the fourth was a 93-year-old woman who lived in Yuen Long.

In the month of August alone, the HA has confirmed 36 deaths – more than doubling the death toll amid a third wave of infections that saw 12 consecutive days from late July where the number of newly-confirmed cases here went into the triple digits.

While the number of infections have eased somewhat in the past several days, officials have urged people to remain vigilant against the virus.

They say many infections have no known source, indicating invisible chains of community infections.

On Wednesday, the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) confirmed 62 new cases, with all but one being locally-transmitted.

That brings the total confirmed number of coronavirus cases to 4,243.
