Police say four people were scammed by a person who pretended to be a "special agent" and cheated them out of HK$2.4 million.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Chief Inspector Mok Tsz-wai said they received reports from two elderly people who said they got phone calls last month, claiming they had committed crimes on the mainland.

The police said they found these victims were being told to meet a person – who allegedly called herself a "special agent" – and hand over cash to her.

One of the victims reportedly paid about HK$1.5 million.

Mok said said a girl, aged 18, was arrested in Kwai Chung on Thursday over this case.

He said the investigation is ongoing and that more people could be arrested over this.
