The SAR government has arranged two special lights to bring back about 330 Hong Kong residents stranded in Nepal.

The Security Bureau said officials have co-ordinated with the Consulate General of Nepal in Hong Kong and arranged two special flights, which'll be operated by a local airline there, to depart Kathmandu on June 1.

They're expected to bring home about 330 passengers.

It's not immediately clear if the government or the passengers themselves will be footing the bill.

Upon their return to Hong Kong, they will be tested for the Covid-19 virus at AsiaWorld-Expo near the airport.

After their deep throat saliva samples are collected, they will be sent to Chun Yeung Estate in Fo Tan where they will be quarantined for 14 days.

The Immigration Department says it has so far received requests for assistance fom about 1,300 Hong Kong residents stranded in Nepal concerning how they could come home, with most of them currently located in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces in the central part of Nepal.

Some Hong Kong people have not been able to arrange transport to leave the country on their own after Nepal imposed strict restrictions on all land and air traffic since late March in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The SAR government stressed it will continue to liaise with the Consulate General and airlines to arrange other special flights to assist stranded Hong Kong residents to return home orderly in batches.
