A chartered flight to Guangzhou on Friday brought home a group of Chinese citizens, including 27 Hongkongers, who were stranded in Morocco.

The group had been stuck in the North African country because of travel restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The flight, which was arranged by the Chinese Embassy in Morocco, left Casablanca on Thursday. The passengers will have to pay for the cost.

The Hongkongers have been given permission to skip mainland quarantine but they will have to provide authorities there with a sample.

They will instead spend their 14-day quarantine at home in Hong Kong, provided they clear their Covid-19 testing at AsiaWorld-Expo. They will have to stay at the testing centre there until their results are known, following their arrival in the SAR by coach via Shenzhen Bay Port.

Eighteen Hong Kongers, who have sought assistance, still remain in Morocco. The SAR government says it will follow up with the Chinese Embassy and airlines so they can return at a later date.
