Liberal Party leader Felix Chung said on Wednesday that it's unfair that the US Congress is only listening to one side of the argument over whether to approve legislation on Hong Kong's autonomy.

He was commenting after a group of political activists, including Demosisto's Joshua Wong, testified at a US congressional hearing overnight to pass the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act.

Chung said he wouldn't be surprised if the act is approved.

But he said that when he met congressmen in Montana they had told him they didn't want to interfere in the SAR's affairs because this would make things worse and they wanted Hong Kong to settle the issue internally.

The Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act would require an annual review of the special treatment Washington affords Hong Kong under the United States-Hong Kong Policy Act of 1992, including trade and business privileges that do not extend to the mainland.
