Students lugging bulky musical instruments filed out of the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts on Tuesday morning as students at a Wong Tai Sin secondary school also left campus – only to later turn back – following reports that pupils have come down with Covid-19.
The academy in Wan Chai confirmed that one of its students has been infected, and the student union said all students were immediately ordered to leave as the campus has to be closed down.
One student hurrying out carrying an instrument case and three more bags told RTHK he hadn’t heard anything from the school yet, but he had received messages from friends saying they must all leave immediately.
Another student said he had received a Whatsapp text in the middle of a lecture telling him the school is being evacuated.
Also on Tuesday morning, students at the CCC Rotary Secondary School left after the school confirmed that it has been informed by a parent that one of its students have also tested positive for the disease.
In a statement, it said It had been advised by the Education Bureau to suspend classes.
Students were told to leave in the morning, but one student surnamed Wong who said he was in the same class as the infected student told reporters they were later told to return for ‘examinations.’
A government vehicle was seen transporting white boxes to the school, though it was unclear what they contain.
Meanwhile, a primary school in Sheung Shui is suspending classes from Tuesday after a teacher came into contact with a coronavirus patient last week.
Fung Kai Innovative School said the teacher is waiting to be tested. The school said its campus would be thoroughly disinfected.
Another school in Yuen Long also said a family member of one of its teachers has been infected.
However, it has not announced that it would also be shutting down as well.
