The former chairman of the now-disbanded Demosisto, Ivan Lam, has been cleared of attacking a security guard at the government headquarters, after a magistrate refused to accept the guard’s witness statements.

The guard told the Eastern Magistracy that Lam barged into him during a protest at the government headquarters in Tamar in March last year.

The guard said both of them fell and his chest was pressed by Lam.

But Magistrate Stanley Ho said what the guard said was greatly different from what was captured by CCTV.

He said he didn’t see Lam barging into the guard, instead, it’s the guard who moved forward and tried to stop Lam.

He added that the guard was on top of Lam when they fell.
